The Unseen was actually a derivative of another movie we were going to
attempt on many levels. What I mean is that three different Directors were
going to tell their own stories, and then we would compile all of those into
one great movie. A long story short, the idea imploded and the movie fell
through. I had some shots leftover that were just going to waste so I thought
I would try and write a story that could implement the shots already taken.
I spent the day writing it at my friend's house. We were planning to submit
it to the UGO.com video contest and didn't have much more than a couple
of weeks to do it. This being a horror/thriller of sorts, the thought of having
creatures take on the screen seemed unreasonable given the amount of time
we were given. So I thought, why not use an invisible creature? Given, I
have seen some films where the hero fights an unseen enemy --- the only
problem with those was that the fight scenes screamed CHEAP! Picture a
man strangling himself or twisting his own arm around and behind his back.
Laughable at best, but I figured debris flying off the screen and footsteps put
into the ground would be pretty cool and apparently the judges at UGO
thought so too --- it got a runner-up spot for the video contest.
This was one of the more successful and enjoyable videos we have done in
my opinion. Most of that is attributed to the proper planning. Everything
was written and storyboarded first. The majority of the shots are pretty
close to the original sketches. You can see some of those in the Pre-Production
section located on the right.
